What types of programs receive Equity Foundation grants?
Equity Foundation supports programs that promote equality and dignity for all people.
Our program areas focus on:
Human Dignity and Community Education. Equity funds programs that improve acceptance, understanding, and cooperation among people, and eradicate homophobia and other forms of discrimination. Funded projects have included sexual diversity training for teachers, development of a community education network in Central Oregon, and HIV/AIDS education.
Youth and Family Programs. Equity funds programs that provide access to vital services for youth, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered youth. Equity is committed to providing support for programs that strengthen g/l/b/t families. It has provided support for a statewide diversity education and leadership program for Oregon youth, peer leadership and education dealing with HIV, AIDS, and STDs, and support for programs working to prevent child abuse.
Health and Social Services. Equity supports access to health and social services, including services for women, senior gays and lesbians, rural or urban populations in need, HIV/AIDS prevention and support, and domestic violence services.
Arts and Culture. Equity funds arts and cultural organizations whose programs are in alignment with the foundation's mission and which enrich the entire community. Such programs have included gay-positive plays, and support for lesbian and gay men's choruses.
What communities does Equity Foundation fund?
Equity Foundation makes grants to organizations with statewide programs, such as Rural Organizing Project, For Us Northwest, Multicultural HIV/AIDS Alliance of Oregon, Oregon Speak Out Project, and Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (P-FLAG). It also supports those within specific communities. Recent grants have been made to groups in: Eugene, Central Point, Klamath Falls, Hillsboro, Ashland, Grants Pass, Bend, Salem, LaGrande, Lincoln City, and Portland.
How does Equity Foundation decide what groups will receive grants?
Each granting cycle Equity Foundation assesses where there are unmet community needs and then selects the best qualified applicant organizations that meet those needs. Each grant recipient must be a qualified nonprofit organization, and demonstrate the potential and ability to carry out the purpose of the grant program.
Are some of the programs funded by Equity Foundation political?
No. Equity Foundation is a charitable organization, and our grantees are all nonprofit groups doing charitable or educational work. Equity Foundation does not carry out political work, nor does it fund political work by any group.
